I attended my very first (and not the last!) Britmums Live on 20 and 21 June. Before the conference, I was anxious, excited and intimidated.
Although I have had this website since 2013, I still consider myself a beginner and I was looking for inspiration on ways to elevate my website to the next level, provide content that is relevant and claim my share of voice as a blogger.
In addition to some invaluable knowledge, I took away a few lessons:
1. Be true to myself
This is the theme that was mentioned right throughout the conference by almost all speakers whose sessions I attended. Lucy of Capture by Lucy hit it on the head when she said ‘copy cats have no creativity’. I like that. I also realised that mine is a unique voice and I should not be afraid to embrace my different-ness (yes, I think I just made that up!)
2. Always, always put out the very best content…
… But also like Coco Chanel, take a look in the mirror and take one thing off. I took away from this that there is no point in putting all my thoughts all at the same time in the same post; a simple de-cluttered approach is always better.
3. Challenge Myself
There are so many new technologies out there and so many opportunities to reach an even wider audience. I heard from bloggers who are podcasting from their websites, and vlogging; I need to get out of my comfort zone.
4. The Sky is the Limit
This website can be as great as I want it to be; the possibilities are endless. For example, Rock ‘n Roll Bride is such an inspiration!
5. Smile and don’t be so shy
This is what I am going to do next year for sure! So many times I was so tempted to approach bloggers I have been following on twitter to say hi and how much I enjoy reading their work, but I was just too shy.
Britmums Live was just the thing I needed to get me going again; to re-do my logo, move my site to wordpress and work at the next level for my site that I will be proud to show off at Britmums Live 2015.
Thanks for stopping by and have a good day!
