Neo’s style – sunny in California

I love hot and sunny temperatures and when we were in California for a family road trip recently, the weather didn’t disappoint. I loved dressing Neo in sandals, shorts and character t-shirts.

Here are my favourite picks of Neo’s style for summer*:

  1. Dinosaurs

Our first stop on our road trip was to Monterey (pronounced Mon-eray by the locals). It was a glorious day and we spent the afternoon doing boat-based activities. Neo wore brown cargo shorts from Gap paired up with a blue dinosaur t-shirt from Next.

  1. The blues**

Leadbetter beach was the first place we went to when we arrived  in Santa Barbara. It was a wonderful 27 degrees and time to let the toes free! Neo is wearing blue demin shorts from Primark, a Santa Cruz (very apt!)  t-shirt from Tesco to match the clear blue skies :D.

  1. Green and Blue

It started getting hotter as we headed south from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles. Just outside Los Angeles, we stopped at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and were very excited to go into Air Force One. Here he is wearing a blue t-shirt I picked up at the (now closed) British Music Experience and green shorts from Gap. I just love the green and blue combination with a touch of yellow.

  1. Painted purple

I bought a few character t-shirts before we left for LA in case Neo wanted some while we were away and they turned out to be too expensive. On the morning when we went to see the minions at Universal Studios, he picked the batman t-shirt I got from Primark for £4 to wear with his purple shorts from Polarn O Pyrett.

  1. Cowboy

For our visit to Disneyland Resort at Anaheim, I wanted a non-disney t-shirt so he would be easy to spot in a crowd. He had other ideas though and insisted on wearing a t-shirt with a picture of Woody from Toy Story with striped shorts from Zara. The t-shirt was a great conversation starter and we found ourselves chatting to other parents also waiting in lines for the rides.

Big smiles

  1. Spiderman

We spent the last day in the US exploring the sights in Hollywood and Los Angeles. It was still lovely and hot so Neo wore a dark grey pair of shorts from H&M with a bright spiderman t-shirt from Primark. He was in very good company – we met three other Spidermans at the Hollywood Walk of Fame!

I absolutely loved dressing Neo in shorts and t-shirts and I can’t for warmer temperatures here so we can have some fun in the sun.

*Neo has other hats but he insisted on wearing the spiderman cap (from Primark) and the blue and yellow sunglasses (from Boots) the entire time we were away!

** The cars came with us everywhere we went but have not been played with since we’ve come back.

Adding a bit of zing to our little corner of the internet

I decided even before the start of the New Year the blog needed a bit of work. It is our very own corner of the internet and I was beginning to feel like it was not representing me, Neo and PJ very well or that I was not taking it seriously. It was lacking personality, colour, fizz, pizazz, you name it! When I was picking my blog theme, I was thinking minimalistic but I ended up with boring.

Black Friday – Neo Style

I recently stumbled into a thing of beauty called Black Friday. Black Friday is the big sales day in the US that happens the day after Thanksgiving. Until a few days ago, I didn’t realise that although undoubtedly not as a big as in the US, more and more UK shops are starting to warm up to it.

As someone who absolutely loves grabbing a bargain, I am wondering why I didn’t follow through on Black Friday since the first time I heard about it on South Park a few years ago. The goodness of the internet has made sure it’s not just our friends across the pond that has all the fun.

I’ve gone through the web and found the best places to make the most out of the day. Ready, Set, Shop!

Amazon – There will be new deals every 10 minutes on Black Friday and the week following with continued reductions. I had a look around the website and you can already get 70% of fragrances and 60% off clothing and jewellery.

Boots – Think gadgets, hair and beauty products galore.

John Lewis – Not wanting to be left out, (their website states: If our competitors are having a sale, then we are having a sale!), John Lewis will be looking to match any sale priced items during the Black Friday weekend. Laptops, DVDs and all sorts of gadgets are also up for grabs.

Supermarkets – Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury‘s are also gearing up for Black Friday with Tesco reporting that they expect sales from tomorrow to exceed the Boxing Day sales.

If you have a nectar card, good news! Shop at Debenhams, Gap, House of Fraser, Topshop, Nike, Next, Swarovski, Accessorize, Crabtree & Evelyn, Matalan, Monsoon and Notonthehighstreet via and earn double or triple points.

The thing to remember for me is to have a list of items to buy, a budget and most importantly a clear head so I don’t wound up buying everything and having no money left over for the Boxing Day sales ;).

Happy Shopping and thanks for stopping by!

Wellie shopping – keeping toes dry

It’s been raining non-stop and I’ve just noticed that every time Neo takes off his Thomas wellies, his socks are wet and his little feet cold to touch. It’s time to shop for some new wellies! To avoid buying wellies that are likely to leak again in less than six months, I decided to do a spot of research first. This is what I found

My favouriters for Neo are either the Joules or the Jojo Maman Bebe – I love the designs, colours and prices.

Which ones have you tried and liked?

Taking some style tips from the streets of Johannesburg

Johannesburg is not a place that’s synonymous with fashion; but in the last few years, Johannesburg Street fashion is making not just all of South Africa, but the whole world to take notice. There has been a real resurgence of street fashion that breaks all the rules but still manage to look trendy, hip and just on point.I love that fashion is being used to communicate the new creative and enterprising South Africa that is redefining the rules and making fashion work in our own circumstances.

My favourites are the guys at Follow the Rabi Hat, I See a Different You and Smarteez.

What I love about these pictures in not the fashion, but the good quality photography too.

What do you think?
