Neo’s style – sunny in California

I love hot and sunny temperatures and when we were in California for a family road trip recently, the weather didn’t disappoint. I loved dressing Neo in sandals, shorts and character t-shirts.

Here are my favourite picks of Neo’s style for summer*:

  1. Dinosaurs

Our first stop on our road trip was to Monterey (pronounced Mon-eray by the locals). It was a glorious day and we spent the afternoon doing boat-based activities. Neo wore brown cargo shorts from Gap paired up with a blue dinosaur t-shirt from Next.

  1. The blues**

Leadbetter beach was the first place we went to when we arrived  in Santa Barbara. It was a wonderful 27 degrees and time to let the toes free! Neo is wearing blue demin shorts from Primark, a Santa Cruz (very apt!)  t-shirt from Tesco to match the clear blue skies :D.

  1. Green and Blue

It started getting hotter as we headed south from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles. Just outside Los Angeles, we stopped at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and were very excited to go into Air Force One. Here he is wearing a blue t-shirt I picked up at the (now closed) British Music Experience and green shorts from Gap. I just love the green and blue combination with a touch of yellow.

  1. Painted purple

I bought a few character t-shirts before we left for LA in case Neo wanted some while we were away and they turned out to be too expensive. On the morning when we went to see the minions at Universal Studios, he picked the batman t-shirt I got from Primark for £4 to wear with his purple shorts from Polarn O Pyrett.

  1. Cowboy

For our visit to Disneyland Resort at Anaheim, I wanted a non-disney t-shirt so he would be easy to spot in a crowd. He had other ideas though and insisted on wearing a t-shirt with a picture of Woody from Toy Story with striped shorts from Zara. The t-shirt was a great conversation starter and we found ourselves chatting to other parents also waiting in lines for the rides.

Big smiles

  1. Spiderman

We spent the last day in the US exploring the sights in Hollywood and Los Angeles. It was still lovely and hot so Neo wore a dark grey pair of shorts from H&M with a bright spiderman t-shirt from Primark. He was in very good company – we met three other Spidermans at the Hollywood Walk of Fame!

I absolutely loved dressing Neo in shorts and t-shirts and I can’t for warmer temperatures here so we can have some fun in the sun.

*Neo has other hats but he insisted on wearing the spiderman cap (from Primark) and the blue and yellow sunglasses (from Boots) the entire time we were away!

** The cars came with us everywhere we went but have not been played with since we’ve come back.

2015 travel wish list

We have decided to do a bit of forward planning with our year and our family holidays. There are flight and holidays sales on right now and we need to be able to take advantage of discounts on offer. We are very lucky that we are now somewhat stable in our lives and careers right now and can, as much as possible; start making wish lists for our travelling. More than just any other wish list, I really want us to be part of the cool kids that have crazy adventurous holidays either here in the UK or elsewhere. Here goes or family wish-list:

  1. USA – I actually want to do route 66 in June but it is so long! The minimum time it takes to do is is about three weeks. I won’t be able to get that much time off work plus I don’t think Neo will enjoy spending that much time in the car. We are still very keen on a road trip and are looking at other child friendly options. This will be our main/big holiday for the year.
  2. Thailand – I am not sure if we are going to manage this in 2015 but this has always been on our bucket list. I love the idea of a holiday on the beach but I also like being taken out of the comfort zone and experiencing new cultures, food and people. I can hopefully finally qualify as a Padi open water diver and we can find fun things to do as a family.
  3. Skiing – PJ insisted I include this one! It’s been four long years since our last ski holidays and it’s long overdue.

In the UK

  1. Cornwall – I think we are three of about nine people left in all of London to have never been to Cornwall. I have heard only good things and we need to make this happen.
  2. Festival – we haven’t decided which yet. My twitter timeline was filled with lovely tweets of people having an awesome time at various festivals last year and I would love for us to have some festival and camping fun. All I have to do is convince PJ.

  1. Portugal – This is one country that we always have every intention of seeing every year but have never had the chance. I hope we can make time to get away to see Lisbon this year.
  2. Croatia – This is considered by many to be an up and coming destination and very good value for money.

I know for a fact we won’t be able to manage all of these this year. There isn’t nearly enough time for all with Neo starting school in September, travel will be limited to school holidays and half terms. And unless we hit the lotto jackpot, we can’t possibly afford all of them. It is good to have something to aspire to when an opportunity presents itself.

What are your travel plans for 2015?

Thanks for stopping by!
